Smoke on the water

Manitoba and Minnesota have massive wildfires right now, the smoke from which has covered much of the northeastern US including Chicago:

The air quality index (AQI) at my house is now at 395, but just 20 km north of me it's at 565; both readings are well into the "Hazardous" range:

The forecast shows the smoke leaving the area tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, it smells bad and tastes worse. I was hoping to show the latest satellite photo of the smoke plume, but GOES-East went offline yesterday evening and engineers are just now rebooting the spacecraft. So we'll have to make do with GOES-West. Chicago is in the upper right corner:

This is bad. At least the temperature is staying under 30°C, mainly due to the smoke. Cassie is very bored and wondering why we aren't going for our usual 40-minute walk right now.
