Busy day ahead

I'm in the Bay Area seeing family and friends, which means lots of time on Caltrain up and down the peninsula but not a lot of time in the city.

Other than that, the most interesting thing I came across this morning is that today is the 70th anniversary of the Stockholm colliding with the Andrea Doria. The entirely-preventable colission resulted in only 46 deaths out of over 2,500 passengers and crew on both ships. The Doria sank in 80 meters of water off Nantucket, but the Stockholm limped back to New York missing several meters of its bow. I first read about the accident years ago in the book Saved! by William Hoffer. (I think I have a copy somewhere...)
