Well, hello there!

One of the Air Force Thunderbirds has been tooling around Chicago this morning, preparing for this weekend's Air & Water Show. He passed right by my window doing almost 350 knots, and I had my 300 mm lens ready:

One of the benefits of living just a few miles from the Imperial War Museum's Duxford aerodrome is that we regularly see Spitfires practising aerobatics overhead. Sometimes there will be two of them, flying in formation. Their Rolls-Royce Merlin engines have a unique sound. We also occasionally see a B-17 and sometimes a Catalina flying boat, also based at Duxford. And now and then, we'll hear the roar of multiple jet engines as the RAF's Red Arrows display team flies past at 500ft on their way to London, or heading back to their home base in Lincolnshire.
